Rice Field Program — Mekong Delta

A large field comparison using KIKO-associated treatment in ST25 rice

Field Design

The program in Can Tho, Vietnam compared two approximately 100-hectare groups. The KIKO-associated group used KIKO pellets before seeding together with a defined microbial program; the comparison group was managed without KIKO and without the added bacterial blend. Because more than one treatment variable differed, the field result cannot be attributed to KIKO alone.

Observed Crop Differences

The KIKO-associated fields were reported to have denser stands, darker leaves, deeper roots, sturdier plants, fewer pest problems and earlier grain set. Weed behavior also differed after flooding.

Harvest Observations

For ST25 rice, reported husked yield was approximately 620 tonnes from 100 hectares versus 480 tonnes in the comparison fields. Milling losses were reported at about 30% versus 35%, yielding roughly 430 versus 310 tonnes of milled rice. Grain quality differences were also reported.

Why the Result Matters

A large field observation can reveal whether an effect is agriculturally meaningful, but it does not by itself identify the active component. The next scientific step is factorial testing that separates KIKO, microbial treatment, water management and other variables.

Next Experiment

A replicated design should include: standard practice; KIKO alone; microbial program alone; KIKO plus microbes; and, where practical, NEW or another reference Enerceutial. Yield, maturity, disease, root development, milling recovery and grain quality should be predefined endpoints.
